Professor Kwame Frimpong is a Professor of Law and the Founding Dean of the GIMPA Faculty of Law. He has had an illustrious career in academia. Professor Frimpong obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) and a Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) from the University of Ghana, as well as a Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) and a Doctor of Science of Law Degree (JSD) from Yale University in the United States of America.

He subsequently taught at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ghana between 1978 and 1984, and the University of Botswana from 1984 to 2007, where he was the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences (1990-1992). Between 1992 and 1994, he was a member of the United Nations Mission to South Africa (UNOMSA) and served as the Legal Adviser to the Commission Regarding Public Violence and Intimidation during South Africa’s transition to democratic rule. From 1996 to 1999, Professor Frimpong was the Secretary General of the Southern African Universities Social Science Conference. Professor Frimpong returned to Ghana in December 2007, where he was appointed Dean of the Graduate School of Governance at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) from 2008 to 2010.

 He subsequently became the Founding Dean of the GIMPA Faculty of Law, then known as the GIMPA Law School from 2010 to 2012. Professor Frimpong laid a strong foundation for the Faculty of Law’s future success. Upon leaving GIMPA after laying a solid foundation for the Faculty of Law, he has still been involved in academia, with stints at the MountCrest University College, and subsequently at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), where he was also the Founding Dean of the UPSA Faculty of Law, now UPSA Law School. Professor Frimpong is a well-respected legal academic within and outside Ghana, and he has several groundbreaking Books and Articles to his credit.
